The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are now expecting a baby!

In America, we do not have princes and princesses or a Royal Family to owe-awe over, but the news of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate’s pregnancy announcement has gotten every American girl, and guy, going crazy. Every little girl dreams of growing up, finding her prince and becoming a princess, but in reality that does not happen very often. There is one exception though for Catherine “Kate” Middleton who wed Prince William in April of 2011. The news of the royal baby was released on December 3rd, 2012 when Kate was checked into the King Charles VII Hospital and diagnosed with hypermesis gravidarum, a severe condition of morning sickness. Although Kate and her baby are fine and have been discharged and sent home, this long ride of pregnancy for the 30-year-old mother-to-be, will be a tough yet exciting one for the Royal Family and the rest of the world.

As the good news of Prince William and Kate’s baby announcement went viral, so did the tragic story of a nurse’s suspected suicide after two Australian radio entertainers decided to pull a not so funny prank, and almost got away with it. While Kate and her baby were in the hospital, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, 2DayFM presenters, thought it would be funny to pose as the Queen and Prince Charles on air. The two presenters were clearly convincing because they made it all the way to Kate’s room, but were rejected by the call when a nurse, Jacintha Saldanha, told them the Duchess was asleep. After the story of the radio announcers from Australia went public, they were praised for their success, and Prince William and Kate were forced to make connections stricter. The nurse who answered the Australian presenter’s phone call was overwhelmed by the action she almost allowed to happen, was found dead near the King Charles VII Hospital on December 6, 2012 three days after Kate was admitted into the hospital.

This wrenching incident has the hearts and prayers of everyone in the world. The Royal Family has expressed they are “deeply saddened” by the outcome of this prank and are not pressing any charges or media attentive comments regarding the scenario. The radio station president has taken both presenters of 2DayFM off the air and has been expressing his deepest sympathy to the nurse’s family. Although it is suspected that the nurse committed suicide, the case is still under investigation and more details will be released following the autopsy.

The Royal Baby, third in line for the crown after Prince Charles and Prince William, has already become a media spotlight before he/she is even twelve weeks old.  The news of the baby announcement has not only affected the UK but also the American people. Questions have been arising as the news continues to travel. Will Kate have twins? Will the baby be a girl or boy? This is the first time a girl could have the opportunity to be a successor to the crown directly. The many questions facing the new Royal Baby have involved many people throughout the world. A baby announcement like this is one that comes rarely but gets as much attention as a terrorist attack would get. Kate and her Royal Baby will be on everyone’s minds as they journey through the next few months. As the tabloids prepare to note every little thing about Kate’s pregnancy, the UK and the United States will be standing by waiting to hear the results of the new Royal Baby.
