As the temperature drops and the holidays are just around the corner, you might be trying to find some things to do while staying warm. There are many fun things to do in Athens while staying warm!
Are you into art and clay work? Well every Friday night at Good Dirt, you can participate in “Try Clay” 7-9 p.m. for 20$ per person. Good Dirt holds summer camps and regular clay working classes through out the year. They are located on 510 B North Thomas Street in Downtown Athens. Also for art lovers, you can visit the UGA Georgia Museum of Art located on 90 Carl Street. Every Wednesday there is a tour called “Tour at Two.” This is a tour at 2 p.m. and it is completely free. They also have regular viewing hours which are located here.
As Christmas is getting closer, there are many Holiday events going on in December. Starting on December 5, there will be a daily play at the Morton Theatre called “The Christmas Post.” This play is supposed to be a classic and wonderful play. This play stops showing on December 9th. The Morton Theater is located on 195 W Washington Street in Downtown Athens, to learn more click here. Also Downtown is Athens annual Downtown Christmas Parade of Lights. This parade has many different schools and organizations participating. The parade is held on December 6th this year and will be all throughout Downtown, be sure not to miss it!
Athens has many annual events and traditions. One of the big Christmas traditions is the Annual Breakfast With Santa event held at Trumps Grand Ballroom on December 15th. For those that are 18 and older that love to laugh there is an “Open Toad Comedy” at Flicker Theatre and Bar. You can participate as it is an open mic night or you can come and enjoy the comedy. It is held every first Tuesday of each month and the Flicker Theatre and Bar is on 400 Commerce Boulevard, Suite D in Bogart!
On December 2-3rd there will be a step competition to raise money for domestic violence awareness and prevention. This “Stomp Out Domestic Violence Step Competition” will be held at the Classic Center and you will watch seven step teams compete and raise money for a great cause! The Classic Center is located on 300 N Thomas Street in Downtown Athens!
As you can see Athens is a really cool place with lots of original and annual events. You have many different events and shows you can attend or participate in all while enjoying yourself in the unique culture of Athens. I hope you will attend and have some fun in Athens with the many diverse events going on this Holiday Season.
