Ashley Burns, junior at Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School, was award the Ram Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance during the August 16th Varsity Volleyball game against Holy Spirit. The Ram Athlete of the Week awarded is given to a dedicated Donovan student and player, who shows determination and excellence in our sports.
Ashley was given the Ram Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance and perseverance through her favorite sport, volleyball. Ashley loves volleyball because it is a sport where she can grow closer to her friends, as well as “prepare for other sport seasons by staying in shape. “ Ashley plays volleyball because she is “devoted to Donovan Athletics and enjoys the game of volleyball.”
During the Holy Spirit game, the Donovan Rams took home their first win of the 2012 season! Ashley, along with the rest of the team, had an excellent game. During the Holy Spirit game, Ashley made multiple aces and blocked numerous hits. As Ashley states, “I guess I helped with points, and blocked the other girl’s hits at the right time.” Ashley helped her teammates to hold the opposing team from scoring, so that the Rams could come out with a win! After receiving the Ram Athlete of the Week award, Ashley felt, “Proud for myself, my parents and my school. Ever since accepting her award, Ashley approaches every game in hopes to help her team and herself, so that she can strive for another Ram Athlete of the Week award.
Ashley’s best advice when motivating yourself to work for the Ram Athlete of the Week award is to, “Go to practice everyday and show up to each game knowing that you cannot give up in the middle, no matter the score. One point can determine a win or loss, so play until the final time is called.”
